Apple has revealed its upcoming Vision Pro headset will launch today with over 600 apps and games designed to utilise its capabilities.

Vision Pro features an “infinite canvas” allowing apps to scale beyond the boundaries of a traditional display. It also introduces a 3D user interface navigated with the eyes, hands, and voice.

Spatial experiences can transform any room into a personal theatre, unlock new collaboration methods, and transport users to gaming environments.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, said: “Apple Vision Pro is unlocking the imaginations of our worldwide developer community, and we’re inspired by the range of spatial experiences they’ve created.”

“With more than 600 new spatial experiences to explore in the all-new App Store, alongside more than 1 million compatible iOS and iPadOS apps, users can discover a wide array of apps expanding the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Sports fans will be able to enjoy Vision Pro’s viewing experience. PGA Tour Vision uses real-time shot tracking on 3D course maps to bring golf to life, while the NBA app can stream up to five games simultaneously with stats displayed in real-time.

On the broader entertainment side, IMAX delivers awe-inspiring viewing using Vision Pro’s high-res displays that pack more pixels than a 4K TV per eye. HBO Max features hit movies, series, and originals with select titles even available in 4K. Subscribers can even transform their surroundings into the iconic Iron Throne Room.

Apple Arcade will provide access to over 250 games designed for the platform. Popular titles like NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition and Super Fruit Ninja offer players immersive gameplay experiences.

Vision Pro’s productivity features are showcased with apps like Box, OmniFocus, and Microsoft 365, offering users an ideal tool for multitasking and collaboration. Collaboration tools like Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams can be accessed directly from Vision Pro, enhancing the meeting experience with multiple windows and shared content.

The breadth of experiences available should help to address the “app absence” concerns of consumers, especially with major platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify not launching official apps for the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, some developers are stepping in to release unofficial apps for major platforms:
