8 best early legendary items, weapons, and armor in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Baldur’s Gate 3 is different than other RPGs because the legendary items you find usually give you a unique mechanic or spell. Although your AC and damage doesn’t increase too much, legendary weapons are really powerful in Baldur’s Gate 3 and you’ll want to know where to find the best legendary items early. Here are the best legendary items in Baldur’s Gate 3 and where to find them.

Note: Once you’ve collected all the cool legendary items in Act 1, you’ll have to pick whether you should continue through the Underdark or the Mountain Pass. Our guide can help with that.

How to get the best armor in Baldur’s Gate 3

Every class has different armor specifications in Baldur’s Gate 3, which means the best armor isn’t perfect for every class. The best armor I’ve found is Disintegrating Night Walkers for light armor, Adamantine Scale Armor for medium armor, and Grymskull Helm for heavy armor.

How to get the best weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3

Just like with armor, every class has different weapon proficiencies in BG3 which make the best weapon something different for every character. However, generally, the best weapon that everyone is likely to be able to use is Sorrow and Sword of Life Stealing.

When it comes to items like rings and amulets, every class and race can wear them. Because of that, I think Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands is one of the best items in BG3, but you’ll come across tons of hats, rings, amulets, and other equipment that specifically works well for you.

Top 8 early legendary items, weapons, and armor in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are a lot of great armor, weapons, and items to find early in Baldur’s Gate 3, but I’m going to help you find eight that I truly think are worth getting. They are all blue or pink rarity and can become even better with other green rarity armor bonuses or class bonuses. Also, none of them are found in the Mountain Pass; the Underdark is more dangerous but more rewarding.

The Speedy Lightfeet

The Speedy Lightfeet are rare medium armor boots that give a plus one to Athletics and the Speedy Sparks buff. Speedy Sparks makes it so when the wearer takes a Dash or similar action, they gain three Lightning Charges. Lightning Charges give you plus one to your Attack Rolls, and you deal an additional point of Lightning damage. When you have five Lightning Charges, you consume them all and deal one to eight points of Lightning damage.

You can find The Speedy Lightfeet in a chest found in the basement of the windmill in Blighted Village. I recommend using the Trolls nearby to help you defeat all the goblins, sneak around the back to avoid combat altogether, or convince the goblins to go away.

Sorrow

Sorrow is a two-handed rare glaive that is one of my favorite weapons in the game — it’s still the weapon I have Wyll use. Sorrow deals five to 14 Slashing damage, has a plus one to Weapon Enchantment, and comes with the Sorrowful Lash cantrip. Sorrowful Lash is an amazing cantrip that deals damage, pulls enemies, all in a Bonus Action. There are so many useful cases for Sorrowful Lash, but I always use it to deal extra damage and secure kills by pulling people off ledges.

Note: Learn all about the different weapon types to determine what weapons you have proficiency in.

To get Sorrow, you need to enter the secret vault under the Druid Grove. You’ll also need to acquire the fourth rune that opens the vault. I did this easily by freeing Halsin and eliminating all the Goblin leaders. I suppose you can acquire the rune by pickpocketing it from the Druid leaders, but that would be evil.

Mourning Frost

From here on out, the best weapons, armor, and items in Baldur’s Gate 3 are found in the Underdark. Mourning Frost is a two-handed rare quarterstaff that is tough to get but is very powerful. It deals two to 14 Bludgeoning damage and has the Heart of Ice buff which inflicts one Frostbite on an enemy when you cast a spell or cantrip on an enemy. Frostbite deals one Cold damage every turn, and adds another point of Cold damage when you deal Cold damage.

If you want to get Mourning Frost, I highly recommend you check out our step-by-step guide. You have to combine three Icy pieces found throughout the Underdark, so good luck!

Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands

Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands is a rare ring that grants the wearer the ability to cast Invisibility. Invisibility is an extremely strong spell in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially for Rogues. It does need to be recharged on a Long Rest.

You can easily find Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands on a dead gnome on the other side of the Grymdark fast travel point, near the Underdark exit. You can try to loot the gnomes with the dwarves looking over your shoulder or wait for all the dwarves to leave after a certain period of time and loot the ring then.

Disintegrating Night Walkers

Baldur's Gate 3 Disintegrating Night Walkers

Disintegrating Night Walkers are very rare light armor boots that grant the wearer the ability to use Misty Step which goes in very handy, especially when trying to get past Shadow Curse without a Moonlantern. You also get the Night Walker buff which makes you immune to Entangle, Enwebbed, Ensnared, and slipping on grease and ice. They’re really, really good.

Disintegrating Night Walkers is found on Nere in Grymdark. I got them by exploring Grymdark and then coming back to the main area to find Nere dead, if you decide not to save True Soul Nere. I took the boots, said thanks, and have been happy ever since.

Grymskull Helm

Best Helmet In Baldur's Gate 3

Grymskull Helm is a very rare heavy armor helmet that makes the wearer immune to Critical Hits, resistant to Fire, and they get Hunter’s Mark. Hunter’s Mark is a spell that allows you to mark an enemy and then deal more damage to them. I know Grymskull Helm is really good, but you need to have someone in your party that can wear heavy armor to make use of it.

Grymskull Helm is found on Grym, the Forge boss’ dead body. Use our guide to help you defeat Grym, who is found guarding the Adamantine Forge. Then, take the Grymskull Helm for yourself.

Adamantine Splint/Scale Armor

Baldur's Gate 3 How To Use The Forge

Some of the best armor and weapons in the game are crafted at the Adamantine Forge in Grymdark, including Adamantine Splint/Scale Armor. The Splint armor is very rare heavy chest armor and the Scale armor is very rare medium chest armor.

Adamantine Splint Armor grants you 18 AC, reduction of all incoming damage by two, immune to all Critical Hits, and you get disadvantage on Stealth checks. You also send an enemy Reeling for three turns when they hit you with a melee attack. You need to get Adamantine Splint Armor because it’s just too good.

Adamantine Scale Armor has everything the Splint armor has, but you get one damage reduction instead of two and you send enemies Reeling for two turns, not three. But, this armor is medium armor which more classes can use and apply their Dexterity modifiers to to make even better.

The only way to get these armors is to find their Moulding, get a Mithral for each piece, and use the Adamantine Forge. Use our Grym boss guide to also learn how to use the Forge. The Scale and Splint Mouldings can be found out in the open when exploring the southern side of Grymdark, so just keep your eye out. Mithral is found in big, blue rocks. I found two of them on the southern side of Grymdark.

Sword of Life Stealing

Best Weapon In Baldur's Gate 3

Lastly, Sword of Life Stealing is a very rare shortsword that deals six to 11 Piercing damage, has plus two Weapon Enchantment, and has Life Steal Critical. Life Steal Critical allows you to deal an extra one to 10 Necrotic damage on Critical Hits and gain 10 temporary HP. This is an extremely good weapon for any class, but Rogues benefit from it because they deal Critical Hits often.

I got Sword of Life Stealing in Last Light Inn which is at the beginning of Act 2. You can buy it from the young tiefling in the Inn, and it’s not that expensive. In fact, you should always check with vendors to see if they have good weapons, armor, or items because they usually do. Once you’re at this point and have a bunch of great legendary gear, you can learn where to get a Moonlantern.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on Steam and the PlayStation 5.
