On Monday, Argentine congressman José Luis Ramón proposed a bill to let workers get paid in crypto.
According to José Luis Ramón, his bill would help achieve higher autonomy. And self-governance for Argentina’s residents. Also, Ramón noted that the idea behind this project is that Argentines can keep the purchasing power of their payment.
In a tweet, Ramón stated,
“This initiative arises from the need to promote greater autonomy and governance of the salary, without this implying a loss of rights or exposure to situations of abuse within the framework of the employment relationship. This project enables self-employed workers who export services abroad to preserve the purchasing power of their remuneration in the process of their entry into the country.”
Moreover, he clarified that employees would have the “absolute” decision on accepting, revoking, or modifying this type of collection. However, the employer will have to bear the costs of the transfer of cryptos.
According to local news, workers who provide services overseas, such as exporting won’t necessarily need to convert their crypto earnings to Argentine pesos as they do with other currencies.
Additionally, the crypto bill must pass both the Argentine Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. After that, they will send it to President Alberto Fernández for approval.
Ramón is one of 10 congressmen representing the region of Mendoza. Also, he is the leader of the 6-person Federal Unity for Development alliance among 3 political parties. However, there are 257 representatives in the legislative house and 72 senators.
