When news broke that Activision Blizzard was being sued by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing due to alleged systemic gender discrimination, streamer Asmongold was one of many content creators who works with Blizzard titles to speak out.

Following a two-year investigation, the California Department of Fair Employment filed suit against Activision Blizzard saying that women were being routinely subjected to sexual harassment in the workplace, with one woman even allegedly taking her own life following personal photos being shared between male employees. the lawsuit also claims that women of color were particularly at risk for having their careers stifled with the company refusing to add them on as permanent employees for years as men were routinely added on a full-time basis despite being newer at the company.

Given the disturbing nature of the allegations against Blizzard, many have come forward to discuss them. World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold is among the most prominent people in the space to discuss the situation.

“Shameful to hear about what’s been reportedly going on at Blizzard. As a 20-plus year fan, it really hurts to see how things have developed in such an awful way. Just makes me sad,” Asmongold tweeted.

Asmongold plans to continue streaming WoW

On July 23, Asmongold also shared a video that further discussed his feelings on the matter. Asmongold said that Blizzard developers shouldn’t be harassed over the lawsuit. However, he pushed back against the notion that he or other streamers should take part in any sort of boycott against Blizzard by stepping away from World of Warcraft.

“If they go to another game, their stream is going to be fucking dead. You know it, I know it…Everybody knows it. I don’t think it’s fair to ask or expect someone to throw away their career because of something they had nothing to do with,” Asmongold said to fans.

Other World of Warcraft streamers have responded to the sexual harassment and assault accusations. Naguura called the behavior “disgusting” but didn’t comment if she would stop playing the game. Towelliee said they will no longer stream World of Warcraft until Blizzard makes changes in reaction to the accusations.

“I’m scared of the end results,” they said.

A World of Warcraft roleplaying guild, Fence Macabre, is protesting against the developer within the game.
