With a name like Castlevania: Resurrection it was only a matter of time before this cancelled Sega Dreamcast title resurfaced.
Designed and (almost) published by Konami for the Sega Dreamcast, Castlevania: Resurrection was going to be a 3D take on Castlevania, not unlike Castlevania 64, but it never saw the light of day. Speaking to fan site The Castlevania Dungeon, art director Greg Orduyan claimed the primary reason for the game’s cancellation was the release of the Playstation 2; but that porting it to that platform would have been unfeasable that late in the day.
However, as reported by Polygon, a leaked prototype of Castlevania: Resurrection has been uncovered, giving us a glimpse of what might have been. The individual in possession of the disc has put up a video of it in action, showing playable chunks of the various levels, accessed from a test menu.

It does look pretty, by Dreamcast standards at least, though we’ve never felt Castlevania needed to be 3D. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a pseudo-2D game with 3D battles, was as close as we really wanted to get. Given all the designers, artists and programmers who worked on this title, it’s only fair that their work gets an airing.
As far as we know, the game hasn’t yet been dumped to the internet, but it’s only a matter of time.
