DHM Fall: Probe, Has, SpeCial wins regionals

Australians Protoss player Probe claimed his third straight championship in the Oceania & Rest of Asia Fall regional, finally pacifying a region that was notable for the chaos and unpredictability in the championship picture. Vietnam’s MeomaikA gave Probe fits in the winners’ final, forcing the reigning champion to five games before narrowly suffering defeat. However, Probe was ultimately able to to read and counter his opponent’s hyper-aggressive playstyle in the finals, taking a 4-1 victory.

In contrast, we saw a champion’s reign broken in the Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau/Japan region, as Nice was thwarted in his attempt to win his fourth straight regional title. Instead, the previous regional warlord Has reclaimed his crown, toppling his rival 3-1 in the semifinals and 4-2 in the grand finals.

In an interview, Nice admitted that his win-rate versus Has had been poor as of late, and he was unable to flip the script in the crucial DHM regional matches. While Nice still appeared to have the edge in prolonged macro games, Has’s edge in the early/mid-game mind-games allowed him to roll to victory.

Things stayed the same as usual in the Latin America region, as SpeCial claimed his 13th straight WCS/EPT/Copa America championship. SpeCial crushed his old foe Kelazhur 4-0 in the grand finals, proving that lag, dalliances in other games, or any other factors couldn’t disrupt his domination of the region.

DreamHack Masters Fall will continue on August 3rd with the group stages in Europe and North America, and the entirety of the Chinese regional.
