72 Thirteenth Ave Railway Estate was once the Archbishop’s residence but was relocated in the late 1990s and has been owned by the same owners for 22 years

It was no easy feat to relocate this character house in Townsville, but turns out there might have been some divine intervention.

Originally built on Melton Terrace in the Townsville CBD, the property served as the Anglican Bishop’s residence before it was moved to Railway Estate.

“In a remarkable feat of logistics during the late 1990s, the home was relocated to the serene Railway Estate, garnering attention with an article in the Townsville Bulletin due to the complexity of cutting it in half and navigating it down from the hill,” the listing by Ray White Townsville agent Varun Pinto says.

Property records show the residence was owned by the Townsville City Council when it was sold for $40,000 in 1997.

It was then sold again for $187,000 in 2001 and has been held by the same owners for 22 years.

On a 847sq m block, the house has five bedrooms, two bathrooms and garaging for three cars.

Inside the front door is bright living room with hardwood timber flooring, casement windows, character high ceilings, and tongue and groove walls, with character features continuing through to the dining room.
