Does Diablo 4 have couch co-op?

I find it shocking how many studios have forgotten their roots. When I first started playing games, couch co-op was the standard in every game. Even games that really weren’t suited to the mode still managed to shoehorn in something you could play together. Some of my fondest memories are giving my siblings dead arms when I caught them screen-watching on Goldeneye. Couch co-op in video games is something that should never have been allowed to slip, and yet here we are today where even your most basic shooters often don’t come with the feature. For me, Diablo was always a franchise that excelled at couch co-op, but does Diablo 4 keep the fire alive?

Mostly yes, sometimes no. If you are playing on anything other than a PC, then you can still sit next to your teammate and argue over which way you should be going through the next dungeon. However, if you’re playing on PC, you’re all out of luck. The couch co-op mode is only available to those on console, which hardly seems fair.

Apparently, the decision is less to do with excluding the PC players and more to do with the actual practicality of the co-op port. In an interview, Rod Furguson stated that the problem lies with having two Battle.net profiles signed in at once. This doesn’t seem like a snag that will be remedied anytime soon.

As for everyone else, investing in couch co-op in Diablo 4 has never been easier. Getting involved together in the fight against evil is simply a case of sitting down and connecting a controller. With the ease of profile sign-in and cloud saves currently,  progress and characters can be picked up and left wherever a console exists. Only one person needs to own the game for up to two people to sit in the same room and play. They can also squad up online for teams of up to four players. Couch co-op lives on in Diablo 4, cementing and destroying relationships from the comfort of your living room.
