Dota 2: DPC Weekly Recap — Western Europe April 13-17

We take a look at some of the most interesting matches during the first week of the DPC.

Just a few weeks after the end of the Singapore Major, the best teams in the world are back to show off their skills. Most Dota 2 fans expected the European teams to dominate the competition, but the Chinese managed to show their prowess, winning the first Major of the DPC. Whether this will happen again is too early to tell because we have to see what will happen in the Upper and the Lower divisions of each region.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting matches that took place in Europe. Despite not winning the Major, it’s still considered to be the most competitive region in Dota 2.

Lower Division

By the looks of it, EU’s Lower Divison will be really interesting to follow because every team here has the potential to secure a sport for the Upper Division.

Vikin.gg vs Level UP

The first series of the week in the LB was between Vikin.gg and Level UP. Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann and his teammates couldn’t win the promotion to the UD, which is why they will give everything they have to achieve their goal this season.

Judging by the result against Level UP, Vikin.gg will definitely be one of the heavy contenders for the title. Despite losing the first game in the series, KheZu and the rest of the team managed to bounce back and took the series in their favor. Each game lasted around 30-minutes, and we got to see some of the top carries in the patch.

Hippomaniacs vs No Bounty Hunter

The second series that we were eager to see was between the Chezch team and No BH. Both teams had the chance to advance to the UD last time, but sadly, they weren’t able to do it.

Even though Hippomaniacs played fairly well in game one, they were demolished in the second game of the series. Angelos “ntakii” Tikai played a fantastic game and didn’t allow his opponents to do anything. After just 18-minutes, Pavel “Mambos” Beneš and the rest of the team had no other option but to forfeit.

Upper Division

There was plenty of action in the Upper Division too, along with some unexpected surprises.

Team Liquid vs Alliance

This was one of the most anticipated series, especially after what happened during the Major. Alliance was considered to be one of the big favorites, but unfortunately, Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov and his teammates couldn’t show their true prowess.

With that being said, the European powerhouse was able to win this series after we got to see three fantastic games. The first one went in favor of TL after a series of mistakes from Alliance. They thought that Nikobaby’s PL would carry them to victory, but Team Liquid won a few crucial team fights that helped them gain a significant advantage.

Following the loss, Alliance played exceptionally strong across both games and got a well-deserved victory. Interestingly, the team had similar drafts in games two and three. However, instead of picking Sven, they went for Niko’s signature Morhpling.

Team Secret vs Nigma

The final series that we were eager to see was between two of the best teams in the world. Team Secret and Team Nigma played against each other numerous times in 2020. Although Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi and his teammates did pretty well, Secret won the majority of the clashes.

However, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and co. were unable to win this time because Nigma played very well. It seems like the addition of Igor “iLTW” Filatov, who took the place of Aliwi “w33” Omar is paying off because Nigma played really well in both games.

The first one was probably more interesting to watch because it lasted for over 40 minutes. Secret relied on their Doom to land the big ultimate, but Nigma managed to cope with the pesky hero.

After winning game one, the TI 7 champions picked Gyro and IO, two heroes that have proven to be really strong. Secret tried to focus on Phantom Lancer, but after losing the laning stage, the game lasted for around 27-minutes. Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi played really well and secured the victory for his team.
