MTN South Africa has inked a multi-year agreement with Eseye, a global IoT connectivity solutions provider.

The announcement is set to reshape the landscape of IoT connectivity in the region—bolstering capabilities and providing innovative solutions to MTN South Africa’s 36.5 million customers.

Under the partnership, MTN South Africa will standardise on a global eSIM and IoT platform solution provided by Eseye. The decision to embark on this collaboration followed an exhaustive tendering process, during which Eseye’s Integra IoT Platform for mobile operators emerged victorious.

One of the primary objectives of this partnership is to transform MTN South Africa into a leading digital platform in Africa.

Lawrence Juku, Head of IoT Solutions at MTN Business, shared his vision for the collaboration:

“Our mission is to be Africa’s leading digital platform, unlocking economic growth through financial and digital solutions for consumers and businesses of all sizes.

Our strategic partnership with Eseye will enable us to sell diverse IoT services such as connectivity, IoT bundles, and value-added services to help our customers meet their IoT global needs.”

Eseye’s Integra IoT Platform is set to power the next-generation MTN IoT connectivity solution, facilitating the onboarding and connection of millions of IoT devices. Beyond connectivity management, MTN intends to offer a range of IoT value-added services through Eseye, elevating its service offerings.

The implementation of Eseye’s solution will commence in South Africa, with plans for expansion to 18 operating companies across Africa. This expansion will enable each operating company to adapt the solution to meet its specific market requirements and integrate it with MTN’s existing infrastructure.

Furthermore, this partnership positions MTN to support customers with new IoT device connections not only in Africa but also on an international scale. It ensures that MTN remains at the forefront of technological advancements and compliance with emerging standards and regulations in the evolving IoT landscape.

Nick Earle, CEO of Eseye, expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement:

“We are proud to be awarded this multi-year agreement with MTN, which is a significant contract for Eseye and demonstrates the calibre of not only our technology but also our IoT expertise.

This contract involves a complex technical process and we have already invested a huge amount of work in the technical project set-up phase, which will be ongoing for the foreseeable months.”

Eseye’s comprehensive IoT connectivity solutions, combined with MTN’s ambitious IoT goals, promise to reshape the IoT landscape in Africa and beyond. This partnership represents a significant step towards creating a more connected and digitally empowered future for businesses and consumers across the continent.

“We’re delighted that MTN, as one of our longest-serving partners, has put its trust in Eseye to deliver a new global eSIM and IoT Platform that will help their customers achieve their extended IoT goals. Work is already well underway, and we are excited for what the future holds,” concludes Earle.
