Three-time All-Star and two-time NL Cy Young winner Jacob DeGrom is heading to the 10-day IL retroactive to May 10. The official reason for placing him on the injured list is “right side tightness.” His MRI found no structural injuries that would keep him out of the lineup for a extended period of time.
The New York Mets’ Twitter account issued a statement regarding DeGrom’s placement on the injured list on Monday.

DeGrom has started six games in 2021, going 3-2 in those starts with a, ERA of 0.68, which is an MLB-best at the time of his injury. He also has one shutout to his name this season. In his first of two consecutive Cy Young Award-winning seasons in 2018, he led the MLB in ERA, as it sat at just 1.70.
His second Cy Young season in 2019 saw him lead the MLB in strikeouts, which he also did in 2020. In short, he is one of baseball’s best pitchers, let alone one of the Mets’ best. If there are no setbacks with his recovery, he should be back in the lineup within 10 days.
