Lufthansa Adds Over 130 Flights From Frankfurt And Munich For Fall Travel

With cold weather fast approaching to many parts of Europe, Lufthansa hopes to fill its aircraft with leisure travelers looking for a warm and sunny getaway. To this end, the German carrier will increase its flight offerings from Frankfurt and Munich to ensure sufficient capacity on its routes, announcing this move on October 3rd.

Warm and sunny

In a statement on October 3rd, Lufthansa said that it was seeing a high demand for flights to leisure destinations into the upcoming autumn holidays.

“After August, October shows the highest increase in bookings to sunny, European destinations. As a result, Lufthansa is expanding its flight program to popular sunny destinations even further.”

Expanding its flight schedules will see the carrier’s most important European vacation destinations served with more than 80 additional flights from Frankfurt and over 50 additional flights from Munich.

So what destinations will get increased frequencies this Fall? Lufthansa notes that its destinations in Spain “are particularly in high demand.” These include popular vacation spots like Palma de Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Malaga, and Seville.

Outside of Spain, the airline reports that Portugal, Italy, and Greece “also remain particularly popular.” Thus, Lufthansa will offer additional flights to the Portuguese destinations of Faro and Madeira. Frequencies will also be added for Cagliari in Sardinia, Catania in Sicily, and Rhodes (Greece).

Getting down to business

It’s not just leisure destinations getting a boost in flight frequency. Indeed, Lufthansa says that demand for business travel is also recovering. To meet this demand, Lufthansa will expand its domestic flight offerings “on routes that are particularly important for business travelers.”

“Over the last few weeks, the airline had already expanded its services for October by 45% on routes from Frankfurt to Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and from Munich to Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf, compared to July.”

Starting this month, Lufthansa will offer the following when it comes to connecting major German business hubs:

• Up to 11 daily connections from Frankfurt to Berlin (instead of nine daily connections.)
• 10 daily flights from Frankfurt to Hamburg (instead of eight daily connections.)
• Up to nine daily flights from Munich to Düsseldorf (instead of six daily connections.)

With more connections available throughout the day, customers have a more comprehensive selection of flights, from early in the morning to later in the evening.

A clear sign of recovery?

The addition of over 130 flights from Lufthansa’s two hubs is an encouraging sign that we are getting close to pre-pandemic flight levels. We’ll have to wait and see if this can continue into the winter and Christmas travel seasons as border restrictions continue to evolve.
