This mansion at 22A Crescent Rd, Hamilton, has sold for between $9m and $10m.

Construction boss Mike Tomkins has sold his luxurious Hamilton Hill home for a figure understood to be between $9m and $10m in one of Brisbane’s biggest residential sales of the year so far.

The founder of Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders and his wife, Cathy, have lived in the three-level mansion they built at 22A Crescent Rd, Hamilton for around 17 years, but are looking to ‘rightsize’ to an apartment.

The property was marketed via an expressions of interest campaign by selling agents Damon Warat and Nick Roche of Ray White Ascot, who declined to comment on the sale.

A local family purchased the property through buyer’s agent Jordan Navybox of Cohen Handler, who declined to comment when contacted, except to confirm the buyer was from Brisbane.

The wine cellar can accommodate up to 1800 bottles.

The home itself is a master build that took three years — as you would expect given its owner.

The 1240 sqm block is set back from the road and is one of the largest parcels of land on the street.

It was once home to a block of units that had been converted into a house and that was where the Tomkins and their three children lived until they demolished the building to make way for the new copper-cladded residence.

Extending out toward the river from the balcony of the home’s upper level is an acrylic-faced infinity pool that offers unrestricted views.

Balconies step down from the main house so you can see over the handrails to the line of the river with no blockouts.

Floor-to-ceiling glass panels frame the view from the main living and dining rooms on this level, while custom-made terracotta louvres from northern Italy direct the view from the mid-level gym that sits above a four-car garage with an underground wine cellar and tasting room.

There are views from every front room of the house.

“We built the house around the views,” owner Cathy Tomkins told the Courier-Mail at the time of listing late last year.

“So I can lay in bed and have a full view of the city lights and the river in the foreground. I love the river. It is so relaxing to watch.”

Recycled hardwood from the original Shorncliffe jetty was used to build the lower-level wine cellar and tasting room that can store up to 1800 bottles.

Other features include a bluestone sauna, a commercial-grade cinema, a 950L built-in aquarium, an outdoor kitchen, and a custom-made copper lift.

Tomkins is currently building the $250m clifftop development, Skye by Pikos, in Kangaroo Point; Midwater Apartments in Main Beach on the Gold Coast; and the mixed-use Rivello Residences development in Hamilton, among other projects.

The sale of 22A Crescent Rd, Hamilton, is one of the biggest house sales in Brisbane so far in 2023, eclipsed in February by the sale of 90 Virginia Ave, Hawthorne, which was marketed by Sarah Hackett of Place Estate Agents and sold post-auction for more than $11m.
