BRISBANE prestige property selling agent Heath Williams has put his very own home on the market — a modern architectural masterpiece nestled between two heritage church buildings.

The interior designer turned real estate agent paid $1.68m for the property at 118 Brookes St, Fortitude Valley, last year and has been adding his own personal touches since.

Mr Williams, of Place Estate Agents, now plans to design and build a new home for himself.

The avant-garde property was designed by architect, James Russell, and served as his own home before it was converted into office space to be sold as a commercial offering.

But Mr Williams had other ideas.

“I looked at this house for a client of mine and I just walked through the door and thought ‘I’ve got to have it’,” Mr Williams said.

He has since completed a $500,000 restoration that has included new bedrooms, refurbished floors, a brand new kitchen, bathrooms, fencing and lighting.

The two-storey property is designed around a central, open courtyard and offers multiple living areas.

It sits on a compact 215 sqm block with six-car accommodation.

“There are elements that are irreplaceable, like having a perimeter wall in my garden that’s a church,” Mr Williams said.

“Architectural homes and luxury homes are not normally the same thing. People don’t understand, there are sacrifices you make for good architecture.

“This is one of those houses you have to be prepared to live with.”

Mr Williams said he had recently purchased a number of architectural homes as investment properties.
