Impact Nano raises $32M in funding from Goldman Sachs, Intel, and others
Impact Nano announced today it has raised $32 million in funding to expand the Massachusetts factory and workforce to accelerate materials development efforts. The round was backed by investors including Intel Capital and Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
Alongside the funding. Impact Nano also announced that Intel Capital’s managing director, Sean Doyle, will join its board of directors.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and geopolitical instability have brought to light critical vulnerabilities in the chemical supply chain of the chip industry that require attention. Ukraine is a significant neon gas supplier, a crucial material utilized in chip manufacturing.
“Impact Nano plays a critical role by manufacturing materials with precisely controlled chemical fingerprints, enabling atomic level control in advanced semiconductor fabrication,” said Matthew Stephens, CEO and Co-founder of Impact Nano. “We are excited to announce Goldman Sachs and Intel Capital’s investment towards our efforts to safely produce materials in the U.S., thereby addressing overseas supply chain challenges.”
Impact Nano is not only focusing on venture funding. Stephens also said that the company is looking to apply for funding through the CHIPS Act which supports the suppliers for semiconductor manufacturing.
“We are excited to team with Intel Capital to accelerate the growth of Impact Nano through the recent funding,” said Jeff Possick, a Managing Director in Goldman Sachs Asset Management. “The capital will help enable the Impact Nano team to capitalize on the increasingly high volume of business opportunities available in the current environment.”
Founded in 2019, Impact Nano makes specialty chemicals for the semiconductor industry and others. The company is focused on addressing global challenges in computing, the energy transition, and health through green chemistry and circular manufacturing approaches.
Microsoft opens up its ChatGPT-powered Bing search engine to the general public; the waiting list is over
The waiting list is finally over. Microsoft finally removes the waiting list for its ChatGPT-powered Bing search engine. The new version of its Bing search engine, which features a chatbot powered in part by an OpenAI large language model, is now open to the general public.
In an announcement on Thursday, Microsoft said it is removing the waiting list that has been in place for the past three months for its revamped Bing search engine. This will allow anyone with a Microsoft account to use the search engine without having to wait.
The new Bing, which was first made public in February, includes a chatbot powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model. This advanced technology is similar to the popular ChatGPT bot developed by the startup. The new Bing search engine comes with a homepage that features new chat capabilities. The launch appeared to be a success. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said last week that Bing had crossed 100 million daily active users.
“We have really good, positive signal from the time we launched,” Divya Kumar, global head of marketing for search and AI at Microsoft, said in an interview. Kumar stated that further information on how to develop for the Bing chatbot will be provided by the company during its Microsoft Build developer conference, commencing on May 23.
OpenAI sends “Cease & Desist” letters to anyone using “GPT” in their product or site names; the owner of SiteGPT.ai forced to rebrand
OpenAI has issued warnings against the use of the acronym “GPT” in products and names. The company has hired the service of the brand protection company BrandShield to go after businesses and organizations using “GPT” in their services.
According to DomainGang, which first reported the story, OpenAI is now sending “Cease & Desist” letters to operators that use the acronym “GPT” in their services. The first provider to receive the email was the owner of SiteGPT.ai. The email dated May 4, 2003, with the subject: “OpenAl brand guideline outreach – https://sitegpt.ai,” reads:
“Dear Team, We are contacting you on behalf of our client OpenAl, Inc. (“OpenAl”). Our job is to work with developers to ensure that they are marketing their products in accordance with OpenAl’s brand guidelines https://openai.com/brand and in a way that doesn’t create confusion for the consumer.”
The email further reads: ‘Stating “GPT” is inaccurate and may imply a partnership or endorsement where there isn’t one.”
“Stating “GPT” is inaccurate and may imply a partnership or endorsement where there isn’t one. If your project uses GPT-3, GPT-4, or ChatGPT you may choose to say in the Product description (not in the Product/Site name) that it is “Powered by GPT-3” or “Powered by GPT-4” or “Powered by ChatGPT” and/or “Powered by DALL-E” as applicable. We do not permit model names in products/site titles because there is concern that it can confuse end users, and it also triggers our enforcement mechanisms. It’s important to identify the GPT-3, GPT-4, or ChatGPT (or DALL-E) model specifically, as opposed to just referencing GPT.
Commenting on the “Cease & Desist” letter, Bhanu Teja, who operates SiteGPT.ai, said in a post on Twitter that he may have to rebrand to another name.
“Not again. Looks like I will have to rebrand http://SiteGPT.ai to something else… The strange thing is I did not even get this email from @OpenAI ‘s official domain. Just some random domain called brandshield…,” Bhanu tweeted.
Venom achieves a major milestone in its first public testnet launch with 223,446 wallets created
Last week, we wrote about Venom after the Abu Dhabi-based Layer-1 blockchain organization launched its long-anticipated public testnet following many years of development. The launch marks a significant accomplishment in Venom’s roadmap as it prepares to launch on mainnet.
Now, the numbers are in and the launch was a huge success. The achievement was a major milestone for the company, including some mind-blowing stats. In just 7 days of testnet, Venom Blockchain saw over 220,000 unique wallets created, 69,000,000 transactions completed, and 1,370,189 NFTs minted.
In a post on Medium, Venom thanked its incredible community of participants for the pivotal role they played in “refining the Venom ecosystem, ensuring an improved experience for all users.”
“We are grateful for the incredible support and enthusiasm we have witnessed during the launch of the Venom Testnet. The community’s growth, NFT minting, and bug reports have all played a crucial role in helping us build a stronger, more resilient ecosystem,” Venom said.
Venom also took to social media to thank the participants. “A massive thank you to our incredible community for participating in this first week of #VenomTestnet! With your help, Venom will pave the way for a brighter future,” Venom tweeted.
Going forward, Venom said it will continue to refine and expand its offerings for Venom’s ecosystem and community.
The recently completed launch enables developers to leverage the asynchronous Venom blockchain, which boasts a rapid transaction processing speed of 100k TPS, and a dynamic sharding feature that enhances scalability and network dependability. To assist developers in getting started, Venom has compiled a repository of developer documentation, equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to build on the platform.
Venom Foundation is licensed by the ADGM and enables the acceleration of global Web3 projects. The decentralized network operates under the jurisdiction of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). The ADGM is an oasis for investors and financial services firms, positioning Venom as the world’s first compliant blockchain, affording authorities and enterprises the freedom to build, innovate, and scale.
