- Twitter will now allow users to tip their favorite creators on the social network using bitcoin.
- It will also launch a fund to pay some users who host audio chat rooms on its Spaces feature.
- CEO Jack Dorsey is one of the most vocal supporters of bitcoin.
Microblogging and social networking service platform Twitter now permits influencers to receive tips in BTC. Specifically, Twitter users globally on iOS devices can now send and receive digital payments. Particularly, users can now tip their favorite creators on the social network using Bitcoin. More so, Twitter does not take a cut of any money sent through its Tips feature.
People drop links to their payment profiles in their bios and in their Tweets. Furthermore, you must be 18+ years old to enable Tips or send someone a tip and agree on the new General Tipping policy. Twitter added it is exploring how to allow users to filter out certain words they do not want to see in the replies to their tweets. This could be used to stop name-calling or abusive speech.
The services available so far are Band App, Cash App, Chipper, and Patreon. Also, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, Venmo, GoFundMe, and PicPay.
Whether you want to tip your favorite account because you adore their commentary, send some love to an emerging comedy creator for their hilarious Tweets, help a small business owner through a difficult time, give to an important cause — whatever you want to support (and we know you already have some ideas), Tips is here to help you do it.
Additionally, people can now seamlessly tip with Bitcoin using Strike. This is a payments application built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network. More so, it allows people to send and receive Bitcoin. Strike offers instant and free payments globally.
Italian developer Alessandro Paluzzi shared a tweet on how the Tips feature works on the Lighting network.
Twitter is also planning on a feature to support authentication for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In particular, the feature allows users to authenticate and showcase their collections of NFT digital assets. Additionally, Twitter also announced its plans to launch a creator fund for users who host Spaces audio rooms. The move comes as a way to incentivize more live audio events. Such support will allow more Spaces hosts to organize better conversations and potentially gain brand sponsorship deals, said Andre Jean-Pierre, who served as an early beta-tester for Spaces.
