What is a Thai Stick?

Thai Sticks originated in Thailand, hence the name. Thai Sticks are whole bud cannabis cigars, or blunts, wrapped in cannabis leaves. It is a very old method of using cannabis. 

This product was popular in the United States in the 1970s & 1980s. Thousands of kilos of marijuana and hash were smuggled into the US at that time. How To Make Thai Sticks

Materials needed for the Thai Stick

You will need to gather your materials. There can be some variance in a few of the extra ingredients, but the main materials are pretty straightforward. If you want to produce a Thai Stick, you will need the following: Whole Cannabis Buds, cured cannabis leaf, a bamboo skewer, cannabis oil,  a hemp wick to hold it together, and some parchment paper. Some people also like to add extras like kief or even hash, but it isn’t necessary for your traditional Thai Stick blunt. Gather your materials together and get ready to start wrapping. 

How to Put Your Thai Stick Blunt Together

You will begin to construct your Thai Stick following the procedure below:

• To start you will need to gather all of your materials.

• Next, you will need to take your bamboo skewer and coat it in Cannabis oil. This will allow the bud to stick to the skewer while you finish the process (you can also use sugary water for this if you do not want to get too high). 

• You will then skewer your buds on the stick, being careful not to break any off. Leave 1 cm at each end of the skewer. 

• Being careful not to break off any buds, tie your hemp cord to one end of the stick and start to shape the buds evenly while wrapping the buds tightly – this produces an even burn throughout the Thai Stick.

• Wrap the stick in your parchment paper and put it in the freezer for 24-48 hours. Some people will choose to leave it in an extra day, but it should not stay for more than 3 days. 

• Take the cannabis from the freezer and remove the parchment. Carefully remove the string at this point – taking extra caution to not break any buds off of the stick. 

• Once you have the string off, get your prepared leaves ready. 

• You will want to prepare your leaves by washing them and letting them dry ahead of time. 

• Now you want to begin wrapping the stick with your fresh cannabis leaves. 

• Coat the buds with cannabis oil or sugary water. 

• Carefully wrap the buds with the cannabis leaves. 

• You will want to do this three times so that you end up with three layers of leaves. 

• Wrap the Thai Stick in parchment paper again and heat it lightly in a pan or hot plate. This will cause the oil to melt and seal everything together. Be Careful! DO NOT BURN IT! 

• Remove the paper and carefully wrap the Thai stick in cord again.

• Wrap it in the paper again in preparation for curing. 

How to Cure Your Thai Stick

There are two methods to curing your Thai Stick Blunt – an earth-based way or a modern way. 

You can use an earth-based way of curing things. This method involves putting your Thai Stick in a plastic bag and burying it in the earth. You would leave it underground for a few weeks. Once the few weeks are up, you can dig up your Thai Stick and take it out of the paper.

The modern curing process involves Putting your Thai Stick in a plastic bag and putting it in the fridge for 3-4 days. Why would you want to do this? There are a couple of reasons: 

• One – because of various elements at play with the earth-based method (plant material, an enclosed non-breathable bag, temperature fluctuations, etc), you can develop mold on your Thai Stick. You have put time, money, and effort into this project and you do not want it ruined by mold. 

• Two – Do you want to wait a few weeks to smoke your Thai Stick blunt when you can have it in 3-4 days? ☺

Smoking Your Thai Stick

The Thai Stick burns longer than normal joints. It can burn up to 6 hours on average. You will want to remove the skewer form the center of your Stick. This will leave a hollow tube in the middle of the stick, which would allow for good airflow and a path for the smoke to travel down. Thai Sticks burn slowly. Make sure you enjoy it responsibly. You do not want to fall asleep with one in your hand.
